MELIOR TECHNOLOGIES LAUNCHES EXTREME NETWORKING PLATFORM
SAN FRANCISCO, CA June 10, 2003 – Melior Technologies, a San Francisco-based company, announces the release of its new Extreme Networking (XN) platform at JavaOne’s Jini-Fest to be held in San Francisco on June 11, 2003.
XN enables companies to evolve enterprise applications from static, inflexible resources to highly responsive, extensible, dynamically networked systems by combining JBoss, a state-of-the-art J2EE and Web Services platform, with Sun's leading-edge Jini networking technology for distributed computing.
This gives companies a powerful and cost-effective tool to connect divergent enterprise resources in a manner that is similar to, but more flexible than the web services model. XN goes further by allowing the spontaneous integration of enterprise services, clients, and devices across widely diverse platforms using virtually any protocol.
Support for industry standards and more
JBoss' open, modular architecture enables the inclusion of industry-standard technologies for enterprise development, in particular the three core components of the XN platform:
- Java 2 Enterprise Edition, a platform for the development of secure, robust and interoperable business applications.
- Apache Axis - an Open Source implementation of the SOAP protocol used for building Web Services
- Jini - Sun's technology for distributed computing.
This same framework easily supports the integration of other technologies, from existing legacy systems to new emerging platforms. With this fully extensible architecture, XN can readily adapt to the ever-changing enterprise landscape.
An evolutionary platform
"XN provides an ideal platform for companies to evolve beyond the current constraints of their legacy systems, all while preserving their current investment in technology," according to Edward Cruz, Melior Technologies' founder and developer of XN.
"In order for companies to successfully build and refactor their solutions, they need an IT infrastructure that is open, flexible and secure enough to dynamically change with their needs. With XN, companies can now access any application, data or device across or beyond their business, all within a self-managing, self-healing environment that significantly reduces administrative costs and overhead. Melior is commited to delivering solutions that support this open, on-demand access to network resources, making it possible for companies to make the most of their computing resources and lower the cost of doing business," he said.
A high-yield, low-cost platform
XN offers a value proposition that is remarkable for its low cost. While other application servers can cost tens of thousand of dollars, XN starts at $250 for its single-developer edition. This is possible because of XN's use of established and proven open-source tools. Without costly, restrictive, proprietary code, XN is able to deliver a powerful solution at a sensible price.
"XN, with its powerful feature set and affordable pricing, is an ideal platform for companies to build systems that are more resilient, all while saving costs and leveraging existing resources", said Cruz.
About Melior Technologies
Melior Technologies is the market-defining application infrastructure software company for Java networking technologies. Its flagship product, the Extreme Networking platform (XN), enables companies to evolve their existing enterprise applications from static, inflexible resources to highly responsive, extensible, dynamically networked systems.
Unlocking the potential of dynamic networking for enterprise applications and web services, XN provides a powerful, modular infrastructure that exponentially simplifies the integration of system resources, significantly reduces the cost of managing applications, and makes systems that are more agile, productive, and connected than systems using current networking architectures.
